HCAP for September 23, 2020

WEDNESDAY (September 23, 2020)
In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel Sentence
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1)

Reading
“I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel, so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard and to all the rest that my imprisonment is for Christ. And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.” (Philippians1:12-14)

Meditation
God’s Word often goes forth in the most unusual and often difficult circumstances. Interestingly, Paul is sitting in jail for proclaiming the good new of Jesus Christ. His imprisonment serves to advance the Gospel. People on the “outside” are talking about why Paul was imprisoned. Paul has his own mission field right inside the prison. No matter how difficult our circumstances may be, the Gospel still goes forth. The Church, while assailed on many sides is already victorious and nothing can change that.

Lord God, heavenly Father, since we cannot stand before You relying on anything we have done, help us trust in Your abiding grace and live according to Your Word; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
