HCAP for September 21, 2020

MONDAY (September 21, 2020)
St. Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist
In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel Sentence
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1)

Reading
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall. Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident.” (Psalm 27:1-3)

Meditation
The first sentence says it all: The Lord is our light and our salvation. We have nothing to fear. We sing these words in Evening Prayer, “ Jesus Christ is the light of the world. The light no darkness can overcome”. The Lord is also our salvation. He saves us. He rescues us from our enemies: sin, death and the devil. He banishes our fears by saving us from what would destroy us. Be confident in the Lord’s promises.

Prayer for Holy Cross Member
Heavenly Father, bless Sofia with faith in you and fervent love toward all those who cross her path this day. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for Feast of St. Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist
O Son of God, our blessed Savior Jesus Christ, You called Matthew the tax collector to be an apostle and evangelist. Through his faithful and inspired witness, grant that we also may follow You, leaving behind all covetous desires and love of riches; for You live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Lord’s Prayer
