SATURDAY (October 3, 2020)
In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel Sentence
“For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord GOD; so turn, and live.”” (Ezekiel 18:32)

Reading
“And they discussed it among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’ But if we say, ‘From man,’ we are afraid of the crowd, for they all hold that John was a prophet.” So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” And he said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.” (Matthew 21:25–27)

Meditation
Jesus’ opponents as clever as they think they are, have no answer for him. Their bravado fades and they show themselves as the cowards they really are. But the saddest reality is that they deny that Jesus is the Messiah. In their zeal to find grounds to accuse Jesus, they have been blinded to the Truth that is standing right before them. This blindness will eventually bring Jesus to trial and to His death. But it is precisely in His death (and resurrection) that Jesus has the last word and shows by whose authority he speaks and lives.

Prayer for Holy Cross Member
O Lord, in Holy Baptism you put your Name upon Kara. Bless her now with the forgiveness of sins and a firm trust in you. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of the Week (from Sunday)
Almighty God, You exalted Your Son to the place of all honor and authority. Enlighten our minds by Your Holy Spirit that, confessing Jesus as Lord, we may be led into all truth; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
