HCAP for October 23, 2020

FRIDAY (October 23, 2020)
St. James of Jerusalem, Brother of Jesus and Martyr
In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel Sentence
“I am the LORD, and there is no other, besides me there is no God.” (Isaiah 45:5)

Reading
“Then the Pharisees went and plotted how to entangle him in his words. And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God truthfully, and you do not care about anyone’s opinion, for you are not swayed by appearances. Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”” (Matthew 22:15–17)

Meditation
Jesus’ adversaries just don’t give up. They continually sought ways in which to trap Jesus and bring Him down. First they “flatter” Jesus, then they slide in a question they think will make Jesus “choose which team he is on”. And by choosing a team, it will display a disloyalty to the other side.

Silence

Prayer for Holy Cross Member
Father, we lift up Stacey before you this day, asking that You would give him your mercy all the days of his life. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for the Feast of St. James of Jerusalem, Brother of Jesus and Martyr (October 23)
Heavenly Father, shepherd of Your people, You raised up James the Just, brother of our Lord, to lead and guide Your Church. Grant that we may follow his example of prayer and reconciliation and be strengthened by the witness of his death; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
