SUNDAY (October 18, 2020)
Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost
St. Luke, Evangelist
In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
“I am the LORD, and there is no other, besides me there is no God.” (Isaiah 45:5)
“Thus says the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have grasped, to subdue nations before him and to loose the belts of kings, to open doors before him that gates may not be closed: “I will go before you and level the exalted places, I will break in pieces the doors of bronze and cut through the bars of iron, I will give you the treasures of darkness and the hoards in secret places, that you may know that it is I, the LORD, the God of Israel, who call you by your name.” (Isaiah 45:1–3)
God orders all things for the sake of His Bride, His Church. He will even use foreign kings, like Cyrus. Throughout history our Lord has directed people and events so that Christ could come and redeem us. They leveled the ground and prepared the way. In the same way, God will use those around you to draw you to Him by His Word.
Prayer for Holy Cross Member
Let your grace be upon Jane O Lord, and teach her to hope in the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Prayer for the Feast of St. Luke, Evangelist
Almighty God, our Father, Your blessed Son called Luke the physician to be an evangelist and physician of the soul. Grant that the healing medicine of the Gospel and the Sacraments may put to flight the diseases of our souls that with willing hearts we may ever love and serve You; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
