HCAP for May 8, 2021

SATURDAY (May 8, 2021)
In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel Sentence
“I am the vine; you are the branches.” (John 15:5)

Reading
“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.” (John 15:5–8)

Meditation
Let’s get this straight—Jesus is the vine and we are the branches that come off the vine. The only way we live and grow is by abiding in Jesus. He is the one who provides all we need in this life. It’s that simple. Yes, we often like to wander away and try life on our own terms, but we soon discover that we cannot make it. We need Jesus, body and soul. And the good news is that Jesus is always there—steadfast, unchangeable, abiding.

O Lord, in Holy Baptism you put your Name upon Dave. Bless him now with the forgiveness of sins and a firm trust in you. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of the Week (from Sunday)
O God, You make the minds of Your faithful to be of one will. Grant that we may love what You have commanded and desire what You promise, that among the many changes of this world our hearts may be fixed where true joys are found; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
