HCAP for May 2, 2020

SATURDAY (May 2, 2020)

In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
“And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to
them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.” (Luke 24:27)
“When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed and
broke it and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened, and they
recognized him. And he vanished from their sight. They said to each
other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the
road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?” And they rose that same
hour and returned to Jerusalem. And they found the eleven and those
who were with them gathered together, saying, “The Lord has risen
indeed, and has appeared to Simon!” Then they told what had
happened on the road, and how he was known to them in the breaking
of the bread.” (Luke 24:30–35)
Jesus’ glory is veiled. Even though He has walked with these men,
interpreted all of Scripture for them as they walked to Emmaus, it is
when they recline at table, and He breaks the bread, that their eyes
were opened. Jesus reveals Himself through simple means. Jesus the
guest, becomes the host. We too are sustained at the Table where
Jesus is both guest and host in the breaking of the bread. Our hearts
burn within us as Jesus reveals Himself to us, unveiling Himself time
and time again.
O Lord, in Holy Baptism you put your Name upon Joshua (Williams).
Bless him now with the forgiveness of sins and a firm trust in you.
Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
O God, through the humiliation of Your Son You raised up the fallen
world. Grant to Your faithful people, rescued from the peril of
everlasting death, perpetual gladness and eternal joys; through Jesus
Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one
God, now and forever.
