HCAP for March 6, 2021

SATURDAY (March 6, 2021)
In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel Sentence
“For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.” (Romans 5:5–6)

Reading
“And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? For what can a man give in return for his soul? For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”” (Mark 8:33–38)

Meditation
The mystery of the Gospel is that things get turned upside down. In order to save their life, one must lose their life. In order to walk with Jesus, one will bear the cross of persecution and suffering for the sake of the Gospel, just as Jesus does. Denying ourselves means we find our identity in Jesus. We are imitators of Jesus and live out this life in Him.

Prayer for Holy Cross Member
O Lord, in Holy Baptism you put your Name upon Babs. Bless her now with the forgiveness of sins and a firm trust in you. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of the Week (from Sunday)
O God, You see that of ourselves we have no strength. By Your mighty power defend us from all adversities that may happen to the body and from all evil thoughts that may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
