FRIDAY (March 12, 2021)
In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
“For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:18–19)
“The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the money-changers sitting there. And making a whip of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and oxen. And he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. And he told those who sold the pigeons, “Take these things away; do not make my Father’s house a house of trade.” His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for your house will consume me.”” (John 2:13–17)
There is a time and a place for things. Buying and selling is not wrong. Buying and selling where God has said, “No”, however, is wrong. And our Lord, who is the Temple made flesh, is not bought or sold by anyone. He only gives Himself away. Thanks be to God for that, for we could never afford the price of eternal life in Him. It is a free gift, and it is priceless.
Prayer for Holy Cross Member
Father, we lift up Gloria before you this day, asking that You would give her your mercy all the days of her life. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Prayer of the Week (from Sunday)
O God, whose glory it is always to have mercy, be gracious to all who have gone astray from Your ways and bring them again with penitent hearts and steadfast faith to embrace and hold fast the unchangeable truth of Your Word; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
