SATURDAY (July 4, 2020)
In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Gospel Sentence
“Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” (Matthew 10:39)
Reading
““Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. The one who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and the one who receives a righteous person because he is a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.”” (Matthew 10:40–42)
Meditation
Jesus sends out the twelve apostles, girding them up for the sufferings and rejections they will encounter for His sake. Sufferings and persecutions which will intensify after His death and resurrection. As they speak in His name, it is as if they speak with His voice. The same is true of our pastors today. They are the voice of Christ, proclaiming the truth of His suffering, death, resurrection and ascension. Words that bring life to us week in and week out.
