Holy Cross at Prayer – July 2, 2020

THURSDAY (July 2, 2020)
In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel Sentence
“Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” (Matthew 10:39)

Reading
“Did that which is good, then, bring death to me? By no means! It was sin, producing death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be shown to be sin, and through the commandment might become sinful beyond measure.” (Romans 7:12–13)

Meditation
There is no excuse for sin. And yet, we are sinful and unclean, to the point of death. Looking at our sins is not fun. Sin is sin. It brings destruction and death. God’s law is good and holy, given to us in love. God’s law serves to show us our sins—no matter how trivial they may seem,—so that we might repent and receive the gift of forgiveness, life and peace. Forgiven, we stand before God needing no excuse.

Silence
