Holy Cross at Prayer for July 17, 2020

FRIDAY (July 17, 2020)
In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel Sentence
“You visit the earth and water it; you greatly enrich it; the river of God is full of water; you provide their grain, for so you have prepared it. “ (Psalm 65:9)

Reading
““Hear then the parable of the sower: When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path. As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away. As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”” (Matthew 13:18–23)

Meditation
Jesus is preparing His disciples to go out and preach the good news. Proclaim the news of salvation in Jesus Christ. Not all will believe, but God’s Word never goes out empty as we read in Isaiah. God’s Word does what it says.

Prayer for Holy Cross Member
Father, we lift up Jacob before you this day, asking that You would give him your mercy all the days of his life. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of the Week (from Sunday)
Blessed Lord, since You have caused all Holy Scriptures to be written for our learning, grant that we may so hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them that we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
