SUNDAY (July 12, 2020)
Sixth Sunday after Pentecost
In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Gospel Sentence
“You visit the earth and water it; you greatly enrich it; the river of God is full of water; you provide their grain, for so you have prepared it. “ (Psalm 65:9)
Reading
““For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:10–11)
Meditation
Nothing God does is happenstance. He causes the rains to water the earth, bringing forth food for body and soul. So does His Word go out into the world. His Word does what He has set out for it to do—creates faith. His ultimate Word, Jesus Christ, comes to bring new life to a world beset by sin. Through the baptismal rivers, we are given faith and new life in Christ. We are sustained by the Bread of Life—Christ’s body and blood.

Prayer for Holy Cross Member
Let your grace be upon Chelsea, O Lord, and teach her to hope in the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Prayer of the Week
Blessed Lord, since You have caused all Holy Scriptures to be written for our learning, grant that we may so hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them that we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
