SATURDAY (July 11, 2020)
In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Gospel Sentence
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
Reading
“The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. The LORD is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made. All your works shall give thanks to you, O LORD, and all your saints shall bless you! They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom and tell of your power, to make known to the children of man your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations. [The LORD is faithful in all his words and kind in all his works.] The LORD upholds all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down.” (Psalms 145:8–14)
Meditation
It is sometimes tempting to gloss over familiar words. “Yeah, yeah” we say to ourselves, “God is good. Gracious. Merciful. Steadfast. Ok, that’s nice.” But, when we are the ones who are falling and bowed down, and God upholds us and raises us up, then we begin to understand the beauty and depth of words like goodness, everlasting, merciful, gracious. In fact, we cling to those promises, rejoicing in God’s unchanging nature.

Prayer of the Week (from Sunday)
Gracious God, our heavenly Father, Your mercy attends us all our days. Be our strength and support amid the wearisome changes of this world, and at life’s end grant us Your promised rest and the full joys of Your salvation; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
