FRIDAY (July 10, 2020)
In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel Sentence
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

Reading
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”” (Matthew 11:28–30)

Meditation
Jesus is balm for our weary bodies and souls. He has taken the yoke of sin and suffering upon Himself even unto death on the cross where the payment for our sins was made. Yes, the trials of this life can overwhelm us and weigh us down, and we find ourselves heavy laden. Jesus says to us, “Come to me.” “Take my yoke upon you.” “Learn from me.” Jesus, the man of sorrows, beckons us to come to Him, to find rest in Him. He is the One who has loved us even before the foundations of the earth were laid. He is the One who gives us Himself and nourishes us in The Lord’s Supper. In Him alone, we find rest and peace.

Prayer for Holy Cross Member
Father, we lift up Kelsey before you this day, asking that You would give her your mercy all the days of her life. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of the Week (from Sunday)
Gracious God, our heavenly Father, Your mercy attends us all our days. Be our strength and support amid the wearisome changes of this world, and at life’s end grant us Your promised rest and the full joys of Your salvation; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
