MONDAY (January 18, 2021)
The Confession of St. Peter
In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Gospel Sentence
“You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” (1 Corinthians 6:19–20)
Reading
“And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Then Eli perceived that the LORD was calling the boy. Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down, and if he calls you, you shall say, ‘Speak, LORD, for your servant hears.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. And the LORD came and stood, calling as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant hears.”” (1 Samuel 3:7–10)
Meditation
Like Mary, Hannah has her own prayer of exultation for what God has done for her. (I Samuel 2:1-10). Like Mary, the idea of Hannah getting pregnant (she was barren), seemed impossible. Like Mary, Hannah gives over her son to the Lord’s presence. Samuel is now hearing the voice of the Lord, although he does not know it at first. Finally, Samuel replies, “Speak , for your servant hears.””
Silence
Prayer for Holy Cross Member
Heavenly Father, bless Karla with faith in you and fervent love toward all those who cross her path this day. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Prayer for The Confession of St. Peter
Heavenly Father, You revealed to the apostle Peter the blessed truth that Your Son Jesus is the Christ. Strengthen us by the proclamation of this truth that we too may joyfully confess that there is salvation in no one else; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
