SUNDAY (January 10, 2021)
The Baptism of Our Lord
In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel Sentence
“And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”” (Mark 1:11)

Reading
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” (Genesis 1:1–2)

Meditation
Jesus the creator, comes to His creation to restore it. He takes on flesh and blood—He who was there with the Spirit hovering over the face of the waters. This same Jesus now enters the waters of the River Jordan to stand in solidarity with sinners. This same Jesus submits to a baptism by John and the voice of God is heard, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”

Silence

Prayer for Holy Cross Member
Let your grace be upon Carolyn, O Lord, and teach her to hope in the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for The Baptism of Our Lord
Father in heaven, at the Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River You proclaimed Him Your beloved Son and anointed Him with the Holy Spirit. Make all who are baptized in His name faithful in their calling as Your children and inheritors with Him of everlasting life; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
