SUNDAY (February 14, 2021)
Transfiguration Sunday
In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Gospel Sentence
“Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth.” (Psalms 50:2)
Reading
“And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his clothes became radiant, intensely white, as no one on earth could bleach them.” (Mark 9:2–3)
Meditation
Jesus has just told His disciples that He was going to be rejected, suffer and die. He then tells the crowds that following Him means that they too will have a life of suffering and persecution. Later, He takes three of His disciples to a mountain where He reveals His glory. This unveiling of His glory—His presence—is the transfiguration. Jesus is still Jesus, but the veil is lifted for these chosen ones to gaze upon His presence with a radiance unlike anything ever seen. A foretaste of the final feast to come in His resurrection and ascension.
Silence
Prayer for Holy Cross Member
Let your grace be upon Tara, O Lord, and teach her to hope in the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Prayer of the Week
The Transfiguration of Our Lord
O God, in the glorious transfiguration of Your beloved Son You confirmed the mysteries of the faith by the testimony of Moses and Elijah. In the voice that came from the bright cloud You wonderfully foreshowed our adoption by grace. Mercifully make us co-heirs with the King in His glory and bring us to the fullness of our inheritance in heaven; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
