HCAP for August 23, 2020

SUNDAY (August 23, 2020)
Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost
In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel Sentence
“He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:15-16)

Reading
“Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness, you who seek the Lord:look to the rock from which you were hewn,
and to the quarry from which you were dug. Look to Abraham your father and to Sarah who bore you; for he was but one when I called him, that I might bless him and multiply him. (Isaiah 51:1-2)

Meditation
God gives us faith so that we might trust in Him, not in ourselves. We seek the Lord because He first found us. Just as God first called Abraham and Sarah, He calls us. God calls us out of darkness into His never-ending light. His righteousness is sure and steady as a rock.

Silence

Prayer for Holy Cross Member
Let your grace be upon Wyatt, O Lord, and teach him to hope in the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of the Week
Almighty God, whom to know is everlasting life, grant us to know Your Son, Jesus, to be the way, the truth, and the life that we may boldly confess Him to be the Christ and steadfastly walk in the way that leads to life eternal; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
