THURSDAY (August 20, 2020)
In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel Sentence
“Thus says the LORD: “Keep justice, and do righteousness, for soon my salvation will come, and my righteousness be revealed.” (Isaiah 56:1)

Reading
“But she came and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, help me.” And he answered, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” She said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.”” (Matthew 15:25–27)

Meditation
This woman knows humility and truth. She comes before Jesus in a posture of surrender, asking for help, knowing that He is the One from whom help will come. She comes knowing He is the source of healing. She comes close, knowing He is the One who dispenses mercy. And, she is no fool. She gets that with Jesus there is enough and always more. That with Jesus, mercy and love overflow so that all may feast at His Table. With Jesus, He gives of Himself, freely and lavishly so that all may be made whole.

Prayer of the Week (from Sunday)
Almighty and everlasting Father, You give Your children many blessings even though we are undeserving. In every trial and temptation grant us steadfast confidence in Your loving-kindness and mercy; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
