SUNDAY (August 2, 2020)
Ninth Sunday after Pentecost
In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Gospel Sentence
“Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live;” (Isaiah 55:3)
Reading
““Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food.” (Isaiah 55:1–2)
Meditation
Jesus is the bread of life. He is the living water. He is the food for the journey. Jesus gives Himself freely to nourish and sustain us in this daily life. There is no need to wander aimlessly with empty stomachs and parched lips. There is no need to labor fruitlessly for things that give no satisfaction. Christ’s invitation is expansive, “Take eat, this is my Body. Given for you.” “Take drink, this is my blood, shed for you.” There’s no holding back with Jesus. He gives us His all. He gives us Himself. He is both host and feast, the One who fills us up with good things.

Prayer for Holy Cross Member
Let your grace be upon Jade, O Lord, and teach her to hope in the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Prayer of the Week
Heavenly Father, though we do not deserve Your goodness, still You provide for all our needs of body and soul. Grant us Your Holy Spirit that we may acknowledge Your gifts, give thanks for all Your benefits, and serve You in willing obedience; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
