SATURDAY (August 1, 2020)
In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Gospel Sentence
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. “ (Romans 8:28)
Reading
““Have you understood all these things?” They said to him, “Yes.” And he said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.”” (Matthew 13:51–52)
Meditation
Jesus is the fulfillment of all that was written in the Old Testament. He is the new covenant, the new testament. He asks His disciples if they understood all things, meaning all the parables He spoke to them. While they answer with a confident yes, it will become apparent at times that they haven’t a clue what Jesus was talking about. The disciples will go on to flounder, doubt and even deny Christ. But with His death, resurrection, ascension and the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, “all things” will have been revealed to them fully. They will go on to speak the truth in confidence with great courage, even unto their own deaths. May we find comfort and strength in the disciples journey.
