Holy Cross at Prayer for SATURDAY (April 25, 2020)

We remember St. Mark, Evangelist on this feast day.

In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

GOSPEL SENTENCE

“God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.” (Acts 5:31)

READING
“Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” (John 20:30–31)

MEDITATION
John, the author of this Gospel, clearly states its purpose and summarizes its central message. People commonly and mistakenly think that biblical books were written mainly to provide rules for godly living. Speaking through John, God announces the Good News that Jesus is His Son and that by faith in His name, we have life and salvation—the core message of the entire Scripture. (Lutheran Study Bible, pg. 1826). This is why we often sing these words in our liturgy before the reading of the Gospel lesson.

SILENCE

PRAYER FOR HOLY CROSS MEMBER

PRAYER FOR FEAST OF ST. MARK, EVANGELIST
Almighty God, You have enriched Your Church with the proclamation of the Gospel through the evangelist Mark. Grant that we may firmly believe these glad tidings and daily walk according to Your Word; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
